What a pleasure to see a British feature film that had not a single scene of Julie Walters, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith or any of the usual assortment of national treasures regurgitating their played-out personas. And what great performances from a group of unknown actors!
How could it be that this film has won awards all over the world but wasn't shown at the Leeds Film Festival? I suppose if the park ranger had been played by Judy Dench it would have been awarded best film at BAFTA, but in the event it was largely ignored.
Anyway, I thought it was brilliant — and even without the majestic scenery it had a good story, well scripted, acted and directed with excellent original music.
Bretten Lord, who played our lad Tom, introduced the film and gave an entertaining talk and Q&A which was a fascinating glimpse into the making of the film and his international adventures. He was a charming and generous guest and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
And thanks Charlotte for your pop-up tea stall — which we hope to have as a regular feature at future screenings.
