Film Selection Policy

We aim to show a range of non-mainstream films of different genres and from different countries - films which are unlikely to be seen at a local cinema.

We encourage members to suggest films. You can do this by commenting on this blog, or by writing your suggestions on the feedback sheet handed out at screenings.  We do consider all suggestions but we can only show around 20 films in the year. The table below shows audience suggestions for the 2013-14 season and which films were selected. There were a total of 70 suggestions this year of which 11 have been included in our programme. Some reasons why a film might not be selected are:

• We've shown it in a previous season
• It's been shown recently on terrestrial TV 
• It's too difficult or expensive to get screening rights 
• It's very long
• It has limited appeal (we do consult newspaper and on-line reviews)
• We couldn't identify the film from the information given 
• It's similar to other films in the schedule
• It has been, or is likely to be, shown at local cinemas 

We benefit from a significant reduction in licensing costs for films that have been included in this year's Yorkshire Federation of Film Societies’ Block Booking scheme so several of our films come from their list.
